Jess Hanson,

MA, CMPC.

Meet Certified Mental Performance Consultant and founder of COGNELITE, Jess Hanson.

Hi, I’m Jess!

I’m glad you found me. I am the founder of COGNELITE, a Certified Mental Performance Consultant, coach, runner, skier, outdoor lover, and so much more.

Because of my passion for anything sports, athletics, and performance related, I have fallen in love with the concepts of how the mind can either make or break humans’ physical limits, as well as the positive impact that movement has on mental health, which is exactly why I am a mental performance consultant and love what I do.

If you found me, it’s probably because you…

While my training, education, and experience is what makes me qualified to support you through these things above, it is my own experience as an athlete, from growing up to being a college athlete to now, that ultimately fuels my passion and determination to help you be the best version of yourself - both in sport, as well as life beyond sport.

And I can’t wait to work with you to help make that happen.

  • Growing up as an athlete doing many sports, when I ultimately landed on just one in high school, that sport was easily the thing that got me through the next several years. I went on to play lacrosse at George Fox University, and while I loved every minute of it, I struggled so much with the mental aspect of the game which really held me at being just a good athlete, rather than a great one. Looking back, I was the perfect example of someone who needed mental performance training, which was something I didn’t even know existed. This was one of the first reasons I got into sport psychology and decided to go on to obtain my Master of Arts in Sport and Performance Psychology from DU. After undergrad, I put even more time and effort into the other physical things I love to do, and within a year, I obtained multiple pretty big injuries from pushing myself too hard that took me out of the things I love for a while. Through years of learning how to better take care of myself both physically and mentally when it comes to injury recovery and staying active, I am still loving doing all of my active passions - skiing, running long distances, climbing big mountains, coaching and taking fitness classes, and coaching lacrosse. I still love to find new ways to push myself and have used running as one of my biggest outlets to do so, having completed my first 50-mile ultramarathon this year and making plans to do even bigger things!

  • Being able to utilize my knowledge and training in working with elite athletes is one of my greatest joys in life. Since finishing graduate school, I have had so many incredible opportunities to work with athletes in many different areas, including working with competitive skiers and snowboarders directly through a winter sports competition center, being embedded within lacrosse organizations to work with athletes, coaches, and parents, worked as a therapist at an eating disorder recovery center that specializes in treating athletes, do group development with top-5 NCAA DI lacrosse programs, and so much more.
